What is Research Writing? What does it mean to be a research writer? How are research questions developed?
In this article it explains that everyone has to do a research paper at some point in their lives. Research writing in a form of writing in which one tries to gather as much information on a topic or “question” that they have in order to write an informed paper on it. According to Purdue OWL everyone has to learn how to write a research paper and it will take practice to be come skilled at it. The article talks in detail about what a research paper is and what it is not stating that a research paper is not a “summary or a book report.” (Purdue OWL.com pg. 1) There are two different types of research papers the argumentative and the analytical. In an argumentative research essay the writer clearly takes a side and uses their paper to “argue” a point. An analytical paper on the other hand answers a question posed by the writer. One does not take a side in an analytical research paper. (Purdue OWL.com pg 1) Anyone who has an interest or a question and writes a well researched paper on that topic is a research writer. An unanswered question can lead to a good research paper only if the writer is willing to explore and allow the topic to “…grow and change[s]…” (Purdue OWL.com pg. 2) Research questions are developed by questions and interests. All good research papers have been written because of a drive behind them, a drive to find out more about the topic being written about.
My research philosophy is to get a better understanding of what I am researching. I want to ultimately learn more about what I am researching as well as be able to connect it to different aspects of life. For example if I were researching a subject I would like to gain inspiration from that research so that I could apply it to my art.
